Harpers Ferry offers a blend of Civil War and civil rights history, natural beauty, and outdoor recreation. Both the Appalachian Trail and C&O Canal Towpath skirt the town.
In 2013, I teamed up with McCollom Development Strategies and Palo Alto Partners to help the Harpers Ferry Historic Town Foundation to complete its first strategic plan and also offered recommendations around tourism marketing. The Foundation’s mission centers on the preservation of local heritage and historic structures as well as general promotion of Harpers Ferry and Bolivar.
Our team left the Foundation on the path to fulfilling a five-year strategic plan – Vision 2020 – and supplied assessments on cultural heritage marketing, fundraising, and economic development opportunities. It was important both to us and the Foundation that we offered short-term actionable recommendations as well as identifying significant longer term goals to be achieved. My role included overall project management as well as offering the marketing assessment.
